We are Jewish women, strongly committed to Judaism and Israel. We are licensed guides with many years of experience in planning and guiding educational trips. We have guided for institutions, among them Matan and Pardes, for synagogues all over the United States and Canada, for all denominations and all ages. We are apolitical and pluralistic.

Shulie Mishkin made Aliyah from New York after finishing a Master's degree in Jewish History from Columbia University. After completing the Ministry of Tourism guide course in 1997, she began working and has taught and guided for all ages, from toddlers to retirees. Her tours aim to provide a complete picture of the land of Israel and Jewish heritage, with a strong reliance on sources ranging from the Bible to traveler's reports from the nineteenth century. Alongside regular guide work, she teaches "tour and text" courses in the Jerusalem institutions of Pardes and Matan.

"Dear Shulie,
I remember many years ago when my father, who as you know, was on our trip to Israel this year, always commented about the importance of the guide whenever taking a trip. He planned and took large group tours all over the world and his ultimate judgment of each trip's success was based on the professionalism of the tour guide. Both of us, as well as every single person privileged to be on our trip, left Israel raving about " Shulie - the guide." You never let anything slip through the cracks. Your complete, thorough and minute knowledge of each site, each town, each historic detail was truly mind boggling. You were also amazing with the youngsters. You encouraged the kids to answer your questions and always provided that little extra comment which you tailored for them. Thank you for making our trip such a resounding, memorable success.
With Warm Regards,
Bonnie Kurnick"

Ruchama Alter is a former Canadian who made Aliyah in 1994. She has an undergraduate degree in history and a graduate degree in Bible and Judaic Studies, as well as Teacher's Certification. Her involvement in teaching and lecturing in Bible and Judaic studies ranges from elementary through high school, adult education and synagogue groups. She completed the tour guide course in Israel and has been guiding since 1997. Her tours have included synagogue and school missions, teacher training courses, bar and bat mitzvah groups, as well as private families seeking to enrich their knowledge of Israel and Judaism in an educational yet fun filled tour.

"Ruchama Alter provided an amazing bat mitzvah experience for our daughter and for our entire group, which included family and friends. For the year preceding the trip Ruchama prepared lessons for our daughter. The lessons covered the biblical and modern history of the sites that we visited. Throughout the year our daughter completed the lessons and reviewed them with Ruchama by telephone. When we visited the sites our daughter served as the junior tour guide and taught the group about what she had learned. The lessons and the itinerary were custom designed for our daughter and our family. Ruchama has amazing skills as a teacher, guide and communicator. She knew the right way to relate to each member of our party from our four year old son to our Rabbi and everyone in between. She is warm, understanding of all kinds of people and well organized. With Ruchama in charge every day was a great day because of how much she could teach us about all of the well known and not so well known places we visited and also because she took care of all of the logistics and made it look easy. Today we consider Ruchama a friend. We wouldn't even think of calling anyone else for this type of project. In fact, Ruchama has started working with our second daughter in preparation for her bat mitzvah. We have recommended Ruchama to our friends and they have all been happy. Do not pass up the opportunity to allow Ruchama Alter turn your trip to Israel into an exceptional experience."

Esti Herskowitz came on Aliyah in 1983 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Teacher's certification from Teacher's Institute for Women/Yeshiva University. She completed her Master's degree in Informal Education for Jews in the Diaspora at the Melton Center in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Since 2000, she's been guiding tours with an emphasis on Bible and Jewish sources, culture and Zionism. Diverse clientele includes synagogue groups, student tours, private families, Archeological Seminars, Teacher's Union continuing education trips, Solidarity missions, bar/bat mitzvah three generation tours and Senior Citizen tours. Esti feels that guiding is challenging, important work, learning as she teaches, and contributing in some way to the future of a strong Israel. And she has fun while doing it!

"Esti,
Just wanted to take a minute to tell you again how very much everybody enjoyed our trip. As Juliana told my husband late last night when we got home, "Esti is the best guide." My sisters both thanked me over and over for having found you, and I am passing on their thanks on to you. Juliana has raved about everything that we did and all that she learned, and the other kids all said the same thing. You made every day interesting and varied, and your visuals really helped bring your stories to life. All of the kids talked about the fun way you have of presenting tons of information, how much energy and enthusiasm you bring to what you do and how knowledgeable you are. Your logistical suggestions, the way you planned the days so that we'd be indoors during the worst heat, and all of the advance work you did enabled us to pack the maximum into our week. Even Mark and Dave, who aren't Jewish, stayed engaged and enjoyed themselves immensely. You really have a knack for what you do, and we all consider ourselves very fortunate to have had you as our friend for a week. When we said good bye to my parents at Newark Airport, they told me that they feel a great sense of satisfaction having managed to get everybody to Israel and show them such a good time."

With lots of fond memories,
Cindy
